Sunil Tatkare on State Krishi Din/Agriculture Day — 1st July 2019


The economy of Maharashtra state is based on the agriculture sector and it is the supreme wealth generation source of the majority of the Maharashtrian population. In Maharashtra, 1st July is observed as the Agriculture Day or Krishi Din and optionally 1st July to 7th July week is also celebrated as Krishi Saptah (Week). 1st July is observed as a Krishi Din to pay tribute to the Father of the Green Revolution of Maharashtra Late Mr Vasantrao Naik since 1st July has been the birth anniversary of this legendary personality.
Late Mr Vasantrao Naik, who happened to be one of the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra state in the duration 1963–1975, is well known as the ‘Father of Green Revolution’ in Maharashtra state.
Maharashtra has a rich culture of agriculture and it is one of the chief producing states of India. Maharashtra’s agriculture products are sold within the country and even exported out of the country. Agriculture day is celebrated to honour farmers and to understand and elaborate extraordinary contribution of farmers and the agriculture sector.
Unfortunately, Maharashtra state farmers are facing many issues, including lack of rains, growing inflation, drought situation, and natural calamities, etc. State Agriculture Day is the right platform to raise and address different issues suffered by the farmers of the Maharashtra state. Agriculture Day celebrations include different programmes, workshops, and speeches organised in order to find solutions to the problems faced by the agriculture sector and the farmers. Different agricultural institutes, colleges, universities also organise various programmes and events to celebrate this day.
India Post has launched many definitive stamps on the theme of farmers, farms, and domestic animals. Moreover, the 30 Paisa postal stamp features and covers Maharashtrian women working in the rice field and it honours women and farmer classes collectively.

Mr Sunil Tatkare has been a Member of Parliament of Raigad Lok Sabha constituency and he has a massive contribution to the agricultural sector in Konkan region. He is an important pillar of the NCP, the party which is based on the principles and thought of a process to respect the agriculture sector and the farmers. The NCP head Honourable, Mr Sharad Pawar had been the National Agriculture Minister. During his tenure, he implemented many innovations in this sector, including the attempt for artificial raining. The NCP leaders and party workers have been always engaged in various constructive activities and tasks for the betterment of the agriculture sector. Their contributions, inputs, and guidance to overcome the drought situation in Maharashtra state are precious which is also considered by the ruling party.
